PET/CT and Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Only a small number of ovarian cancers are found at an early stage as early tumors are hard for even skilled doctors to find aswell as the fact that tumors on the ovary cannot be found through the Pap test, as used for cervical cancer

PET/CT scanning can help either diagnose a tumour if performed after symptoms have been determined, or PET/CT can be used to help locate the primary tumor after diagnosis. PET/CT is also excellent in determining the stage of the cancer immediately after it is found, so that the most appropriate therapy can be given.

A PET scan can show where tumor cells are growing, which helps your doctor determine the best course of treatment and the CT scan can locate the tumour and the surrounding area, aiding treatment planning.
