PET/CT and Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis and Treatment
A PET/CT scan can be used to detect Alzheimer's disease and aid in its treatment
by showing the brain's biological changes due to Alzheimer's disease before
any other diagnostic test.
This function of the PET/CT scan allows Alzheimer's disease to be detected
years earlier than the onset of its symptoms.
Early detection and confirmation of Alzheimer's disease allows for the following
measures to be taken to slow down, or try and prevent the disease:
- Early drug therapy to slow the loss of the patient's ability to function.
- Future planning before loss of mental capacity
- Positive and accurate diagnosis of other chronic depression, and normal
aging
- Help in the discovery and development of new therapies.
