PET/CT & Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a form of malignant (cancerous) tumor that can arise within
a variety of different cells in the female ovaries: the female reproductive
and hormone-producing organs found on each side of the uterus
There are three types of cancers that can affect the ovaries. The three
types of ovarian cancer are:
This is the most common kind of ovarian tumor, starting in the epithelial cells
that are found in the outer layer of cells in the ovaries.
Germ cell cancers are tumours that start in the cells that form eggs in the
ovary. This is quite a rare ovarian cancer.
Stromal cell cancers start in the stromal cells of the ovaries: cells form
the tissue that holds the ovaries together.
