How is the CT Heart Scan Procedure Performed?
Two different methods of CT scanning can assess a person’s risk for coronary
artery disease. The method chosen will depend on the patient’s age and risk
factors. The first approach, coronary calcium screening, detects calcium deposits
in the coronary arteries, is recommended for patients over the age of 60. The
second approach, contrast-enhanced CT heart scan, is recommended for patients
under the age of 60 who have other risk factors (smoking, high cholesterol,
family history of heart disease).
