Preparing for a CT Head Scan

Patients should wear comfortable, loose clothing for the CT head scan. As well, they should remove anything that might interfere with obtaining an accurate image of the head, such as:

  • Earrings
  • Facial jewelry
  • Eyeglasses
  • Dentures
  • Dental implants
  • Hair accessories

Patients may be requested to refrain from eating and drinking one or more hours prior to the CT Head scan.

Women should always inform their doctor or x-ray technologist of any possibility of pregnancy, even if the pregnancy has yet to be confirmed.
