Colitis
Colitis is an inflammation of the colon. Its cause is unclear, though it occurs
most often in people between the ages of 15 and 30 who have a history of colitis
in the family. Symptoms of colitis can include frequent, loose, blood-specked
stools; abdominal pain; fever; chills; nausea;weight loss; and fatigue. Colitis
can lead to long-term medical conditions, such as cancer and even death. An
abdominal CT scan can help identify colitis. Though it cannot be cured, colitis
can often be managed and treated with a proper diet, medication, and drinking
plenty of water.
